Your email address – does it help or hinder you?

Your email address is one of the many ways you brand yourself.  It is fine to have an address that reflects your personality or hobbies, but please don’t use this on your resume or any professional correspondence.  Yesterday, as I was looking at someone’s resume on Monster, their email address was so unprofessional, I did not select her resume for the position I was trying to find candidates for.  It is best to use your full name or some form of your name as your email address.  You should always set the properties so your name displays on the From field of the email.  I can’t tell you how many people have not done this.  I get emails from them and they haven’t signed their name, so I don’t know who they are.  If you are married, please GET YOUR OWN EMAIL address.  There are plenty of free internet sites where you can get an email address for free to use for professional reasons only such as Google or Yahoo.  What does your email brand say about you?
