General Manager
Our Client, a successful publishing company, is seeking a General Manager who has an extensive background in identifying, quantifying and implementing Key Performance Indicators that drive profitability as well as future growth plans and hiring decisions. This position is based out of corporate headquarters in Austin, TX and will potentially include a team of administrative direct reports.

Responsibilities:
• Quickly understand where we are most profitable and be able to prioritize efforts from consulting, editorial, production, marketing and distribution teams so that the focus for the organization is on high profit projects.
• Improve our existing business productivity and establish the road map of infrastructure that will allow us to hit our revenue targets.
• Refine business strategy to better determine our “hot spots” and suggest operational changes that will allow us to move through periods of rapid growth without losing quality.
• Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizations mission — specifically, implementation of dashboards, improved information flow and business processes, and organizational planning.
• Continuously improve client satisfaction and corresponding measurement and monitoring programs; respond to/address escalated client concerns and implement root cause solutions as appropriate
• Implement and facilitate personnel programs that promote professional development, retention and continuous learning; Additionally, facilitate company award and PR programs, positioning the company as a progressive, successful, sought-after place to work (i.e. Inc500, Best Places to Work, Austin Fast50, careers website, etc)
• Identify key success factors and differentiators that will drive book sales and corporate profitibility (i.e. top genres, author-profile, distribution strategies, etc) ; based on findings, recommend adjustments to corporate strategy and service offerings.
• Establish and maintain an environment where A-Player performance is both closely tracked and rewarded by creating metrics which allow every employee to understand what they are being reviewed on and what is expected.
• Ensure the hiring, retaining, and development of A players and the swift removal of underperformers.

Requirements:
• 7-10 years experience in Operational leadership positions – preferably in small to mid-size company environments – showing a clear progression of responsibility and success in driving profitability
• Proven, successful track record in the management of company operations, finance, and quality assurance
• Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment in a smaller company
• Must have direct management experience, with ability to lead and motivate groups and individuals regardless of reporting relationship
• Significant data extraction and analytical skills
• Strong project management skills, with the proven ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel to aid in data extraction, manipulation and analysis
• Solid experience interfacing successfully with multiple divisions including Sales, Production, Marketing and Finance and strong working knowledge of those areas
• Prior success in establishing a metrics-driven environment where A Player performance is both closely tracked and rewarded
