Principal User Experience Designer

LibreDigital, a leading digital print media technology firm in Austin, is seeking an experienced User Experience Designer for a full-time position to lead all design efforts for their direct-to-consumer and publisher services businesses. For the direct-to-consumer business, design efforts include a portfolio of cross-media (newspapers, magazines, eBooks, audio books) promotional (interactive ads and widgets), checkout, fulfillment and reading pages and applications. For the publisher services business, design efforts include portal, dashboard, reporting, analytics and configuration tools and applications. Design efforts may include specific explorations on different platforms and devices (eReaders, tablets, smartphones).

As lead designer, this role requires the ability to assimilate a wide variety of inputs across a wide variety of projects into a cohesive and consistent set of user experience guidelines. The role requires the ability to quickly understand business and functional requirements in each area to enable rapid translation into visual explorations (flows, wireframes) that can be iterated with the stakeholders to ensure consensus. Some projects may require managing internal or external focus groups to obtain objective feedback. As the design begins to solidify, this role oversees the manifestation of the site or application design in the form of compositions that can be handed off to the development team for implementation.

The role requires a strong visual aesthetic and an existing portfolio reflecting your work history and style. You must be experienced in working with diverse teams (business, product management, engineering and external contract graphic designers) to influence the direction of applications at both a functional and technical level. You must have demonstrated a mastery of creative tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, iPlotz, etc. LibreDigital feels that user experience will be a key differentiator for the direct-to-consumer business and therefore considers this position to be a key influencer in overall company direction and strategy. It is critical that you be a confident, self-starter who is comfortable thinking out of the box and defending your position when you feel strongly.

Responsibilities
• Participate in the requirements definition process with Product Management, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
• Understand complex technical concepts and capabilities and create intuitive interfaces to make them accessible and self-evident to an end user.
• Develop user interface design concepts and wireframes, hi-fidelity mock-ups, usage scenarios, specifications, navigation maps, style guidelines, and other UI design documents.
• Work with internal and external graphic designers to produce compositions that will be delivered to the development team for implementation.
• Present UI designs to the product team and management for review and feedback.
• Develop and maintain detailed style guide and user-interface specifications (Style Guide)
• Work with engineering counter-parts as needed to clarify requirements and solve design challenges.
• By working with the team throughout the development cycle, ensure final product meets design specifications and established standards.
Requirements
• Formal Education in Interaction Design, Computer Science, HCI, or similar.
• 5+ years of experience in user experience design field, including information architecture, usability, user experience, graphic design, etc.
• 2+ years of experience in UX design for a direct-to-consumer ecommerce site
• Experience managing a team of designers.
• Portfolio or samples of work demonstrating great user-centered design solutions.
• Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver.
• Experience planning and executing focus groups, usability testing, synthesizing results, and incorporating feedback.
• The ability to develop quick prototypes in HTML/CSS, JavaScript.
• A solid understanding of how to create compelling UI designs that is technically feasible to implement.
• Strong attention to detail and consistency.
• The ability to scope design initiatives accurately and prioritize work items appropriately.
• Comfortable working in across multiple Agile teams that needs UI staffing.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
