Injury Prevention Coordinator II – Dell Childrens Medical Center – Austin, TX – Part of the Seton Healthcare Family

Responsibilities:

1. Leads in the design and implementation of research projects. This may involve study design, data collection, data analysis, and presentation / dissemination of results.

2. Works with hospital, local, regional and state-wide injury prevention and healthcare partners to influence institutional and public policy changes regarding injury prevention.

3. Designs, facilitates and evaluates injury prevention programs in the Central Texas community

4. Conducts data analysis and community needs assessments to determine injury prevention priorities and aid in development and evaluation of injury prevention interventions.

5. Designs and implements program evaluation strategies.

6. Collaborates or leads in writing grants and manuscripts.

7. Develops and actively participates in educational opportunities, presentations, workshops, and community meetings.

8. Works with the local media to increase awareness of child injury.

9. Collaborates with the community on injury prevention events and programs.

10. Provides direct injury prevention services, including safety counseling and resource provision, to patient families and hospital staff.

11. Keeps up to date on injury prevention topics, keeps educational material current, and serves as a resource and spokesperson for the community, Dell Children’s Medical Center, and the Seton Family of Hospitals.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Community Health, Public Health, Communications or Public Relations is required; Master’s degree in Public Health or related field is preferred.

Four (4) years community health/public health, community based organization and/or clinical setting experience is required.

Certified Health Education Specialist and Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician are preferred. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual applicant preferred – Spanish Speaking.

Experience in public health program planning.

Experience in environmental, organizational, and public policy change in relation to injury risk factors.

Skills

Working knowledge of injury prevention program design, program implementation and program evaluation in both the hospital and community settings. Data registry analysis experience is required. Organizing injury prevention events and engaging in community and coalition building is required. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy is required.

Effective problem solving skills time management and self-direction is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Spanish-speaking highly preferred. Ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary teams and develop collaborative partnerships within the community and within the hospital organization is required. Ability to work independently is required.
